Mike Pierson's Autobiography
Friend and Neighbor,
I am honored by your desire to know more about me and my family. I grew up in McAlester,OK under the immediate care of my grandmother Gloria West. Gloria worked as a hotel supervisor for many years at Ramada Inn formerly the Holiday Inn.
My mother struggled with drug addiction, and could not provide for my brothers and me. My father had limited contact with me, and the closest male role model I had was my uncle who is a truck driver. However, I was an active church goer after I met Dorothy whom I consider to be my spiritual grandmother. At six years old I was taken to church every Sunday by Dorothy who didn't even know my family. Dorothy provided me with a good foundation in morals and Biblical truths.
I was an honor student throughout school, and participated in several organizations growing up. My accomplishments from my youth are my earning the Eagle Scout Award, participating in Boy's State 2004, serving as a Chaplain for the Sons of the American Legion post 179 in McAlester, and raising the funds for my mission trip to Russia.
I met Julie at church camp when I was 13, and I knew there was something special about her. She lived in Lindsay, and even though we lived two hours away from each other we maintained contact. It took some growing up and time for me to realize we were meant to be together, but I asked Bruce and Jill, Julie's parents, if I could marry Julie. They said yes, and I proposed to Julie at my senior prom, and we married on October 22, 2005.
When I came to OSU for my education I did not know the course my life would soon take. I originally intended on studying Agricultural Economics and Education, but I enjoyed political studies so much that I switched my degree plan to Political Science.
I had a great first year at OSU, I had married my soul mate and found good employment to help with the financial burden of school. I have since worked for Dale Caudle Painting Company in Stillwater as a part time employee during the semester, and full time employee during the semester breaks.
Julie and I also became youth assistants at our church Calvary Assembly of God in Stillwater, located just east of Jardot on McElroy. The church is a great environment for my family to fellowship with others and a great place for me to grow in my faith.
In August 2006, I joined the Oklahoma National Guard to follow in the footsteps of my great-grandfather Arthur Clinton Hodgkinson. I had contemplated the other branches and after looking over the responsibilities of them all decided I would prefer the opportunity to serve both my State and my Country. I went to Fort Benning, Georgia in the spring of 2007 for Army Infantry school, and graduated on May 25, 2007 as an Infantryman.
The summer of 2007 was a great time of fellowship and reunion with family and friends, but it was cut short by the training for deployment of the 45th Infantry, our Oklahoma National Guard. I participated in the training during July and August before returning to OSU for the fall semester. As rear detail for my unit I train one weekend a month and aid the unit in other responsibilities as needed.
I decided in September of 2007 to run for State House because of problems I saw in the areas of education, health care, and public safety. I believe in Oklahoma, and I am thankful for the opportunities I have had so far. It is my full intention to bring more opportunity and progress to our area within my first term. As State Representative my duties would be an honor to help fund our local organizations, schools, and assist our citizens as needed. I would be a resource to the community and leaders to help every municipality and school as needed.
I welcome the opportunity to meet with you, and would like to know you personally. If you want to call me at 405-564-0200, and I will return your call.
Thank you,
Mike Pierson Candidate House District 33
